Study of congenital malformations in newborn

First trimester in pregnancy is majorly about “Organogenesis”, formation and development of embryo, then progression to fetus. Insult the stages this organogenesis leads various anomalies; including malformations. Lack nutrition, folate deficiency, genetic factors, teratogenic drugs or environmental exposure can lead such malformed embryo/fetus. Viability fetus depends on system affected, severity. Many do not survive major defects, but some may reach stage live births, causing problems for survival, growth development. The psychological impact couple, along with future financial strain possible treatments are additional burdens. There have been few investigations, now made available diagnosing many malformations earlier pregnancy; making us able detect them, so that proper counselling couple outcome, we take decisions continuation termination pregnancy. This was a prospective study, where studied 200 newborns who were born congenital malformations, during time period January 2017 December 2019. total 15687 deliveries said period, incidence be 1.27%. Most commonly involved central nervous (39%), followed by musculoskeletal (25%), gastrointestinal (11%).
